Aberrant induction of regulatory activity of [CD4.sup.+][CD25.sup.+] T cells by dendritic cells in HIV-infected persons with amebic liver abscess
Article Abstract:
The role of [CD4.sup.+][CD25.sup.+] T cells in the susceptibility of HIV-1-infected persons to the amebic liver abscess (ALA) disease is investigated. The results have implied an interaction between two pathogens, which is exhibited as an increased host susceptibility to invasion of one pathogen resulting from modified dendritic cells (DC) capacity mediated by the other pathogen (HIV-1) through upregulating the suppressive function of regulatory T cells.

Cross-Clade CD8(super +) T-cell responses with a preference for the predominant circulating clade
Article Abstract:
Recombinant vaccinia-based interferon gamma Elispot assays are used to test the inter-clade crossreactivity of clades A, B, C. and D Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Env in two cohorts of HIV-infected Kenyans. The results reveal that cross-clade CD8(super +) T cell recognizes the conserved regions of Env, accounting for the high degree of cross-reactivity but not the clade A preference.

Protective efficacy of multiepitope human leukocyte antigen-A*0201 restricted cytotoxic T-lymphocyte peptide construct against challenge with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 tax recombinant vaccinia virus
Article Abstract:
A novel multivalent cytotoxic T-lymphocyte peptide construct derived from the tax protein of HTLV-1 separated by arginine spacers that elicited high cellular responses against individual epitopes simultaneously in human leukocyte antigen-A*0201 transgenic mice. A positive corelation was found between processing rates and the immunogenecity of the intended epitopes.
